Sounds Like

Brad Anderson… I’m of the age where Session 9 was a pretty big deal (that and May and Wendigo). I saw The Machinist in the theater and was kind of let down. Didn’t keep up with the guy since even though most of his movies look decent. I guess he went back to this hearing well last year.

This is such a turn after the previous episodes. It feels so much more like a Showtime show. It hangs less on special effects and is a lot darker. Also, what an opportunity to see an amazing actor just crush.

2006 | Masters of Horror

Wasn’t really looking forward to this episode and while it’s not a highlight, it’s quite good.

Feels very different from every other episode and is much more of a slow psychological drama. Chris Bauer’s performance is great and the film does an amazing job at getting you into his perspective. The sound design is excellent and sometimes incredibly unnerving and uncomfortable and has the effect it’s supposed to have.

But the pacing really isn’t too good and there are parts that feel a bit too slow and, for a show that’s called “Masters of Horror”, there might not be enough horror.
