Ford’s early achievements were just a taste of what was to come, but despite he drawing influence from Griffith’s films specifically on the bourgeoisie/proletariat divisions in southern U.S., he was already forming his own distinctive style. Quite humorous and charming, with glorious cinematography and use of gestures, the horse racing shots are wonderfully shot and the “horse narration” is a nice touch.
