Front Cover's authenticity doesn't come into question, but its ability to fully engage does. Jake Choi is indeed a star in this and able to draw attention on his own, but the melodrama is overall middling. However, the film still stands as an examination between the differences between queer romance's perception in the United States versus China, at least from an As-Am perspective examining both based off of exactly what kind of Chinese people are able to make it over to the west in the first place (those of wealth or some other form of societal power or attention). I do wish there were more shots meant to isolate Choi's character, however. Those are fantastic
