This character just absolutely made no sense. He clearly had some sort of death wish and issue with earth that was so bad that it was worth dying for. But they never really gave him a backstory of why he would be willing to die for the mission other than “I trained for 5 years and made a little gizmo for it” so there’s just no story to explain any of his motives. Just self pity
