Spencer Tracy is really in this just to try to steal some guy’s wife, the lovely and tough Joan Crawford. Tracy is exceedingly good at it by being aggressively charming and throwing his power around. It helps that Crawford’s spouse is a chump.
Most of these kinds of films from the 30s and 40s are just chock full of great creative dialogue that I’m a sucker for, but sometimes their weird era appropriate pro-capitalist anti-union stuff catches up to it.
Biggest delight is the sequence where Joan Crawford yells “NO” at Spencer Tracy over and over when she’s modeling at a fashion show.
