Scanners III: The Takeover forgoes much of the atmospheric horror of the original, doubling down on the sequel's action elements to fun effect, in this high-octane absurdist illogical comedic romp through Scannerville, USA. Yes, this is borderline a comedy in parts — a severed limb falling off a building onto a cop's car only for the cop to turn the windscreen wipers on and say "I hate this city" is the kind of bizarro sense of humour prevalent throughout. What it lacks in rationality, it more than makes up in a complete abandonment of reality. This is basically a parody of the franchise, so YMMV, but for me it's more-or-less what I look for in a third movie in a horror franchise, even if it feels structurally similar to the original.
