The book describes culture during the 50s as “the great cultural nap” and I think Can-Can is the perfect last film of Frank’s to fit into and finish out that mindset and (hopefully) transition into the 60s. Not very interesting, not very controversial, overly long, pointless musical numbers. Shirley MacLaine is doing the most though and we appreciate her for that.
