i’m fundamentally un-happy.
the powerhouse performance of adibah noor and the restrained (but amazing) cinematography by legend christopher doyle aside, this film (or rather the dialogue carried out throughout) truly had some backward messaging on rape.
i dont understand the thought process of having a victim of rape, profess that one has ever loved him like his child rapist?
[cardi b screaming meme] what was the reason? what was the REASON? however, i do appreciate the range that both biba’s character (as the pious, religious wife in denial) and eric’s. biba accusing him of wanting to be raped as a boy (seems like a fitting accusation) and eric retracting his report after being coaxed by his rapist.
to me, the film took a nosedive narrative-wise after the ‘mutual slap’ scene.
