I re-watched this movie today, with a couple of Poirot films to watch tomorrow, with the intention of relieving some old favourites and seeing if they hold up, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Murder By Decree, indeed does. It offers an alternative telling to the infamous Jack The Ripper case, a case I am very familiar with but doesn’t go in the dark direction like other true-story films such as Zodiac. I still prefer Basil Rathbourne’s acting, but this along with the show that came out a decade ago are my favourite adaptations of, in my opinion, the most iconic character in fiction.
