Honestly, there's a twinkle of genius here I think is going under my radar or over my head. Reminds me of when I read The Stranger and every proponent basically says I missed the point.
The art is beautiful. The pulse is artfully lackadaisical. And then the end kinda drops a hammer on your head. Feels like an existentially lit cigarette, slowly burning out but whose extinguishment is no less powerful.
Even if I didn't love it, or even feel floored by it, it's gonna stick with me. That's usually a better indicator of greatness than feelings of immediacy. Certainly separate from the majority of its peers, in good ways.
