While not the action-packed hype fest that I enjoyed so much from the original Digimon movies, the first part of tri does a good job reintroducing us to our main characters and what they’ve been up to since we last saw them. 

The strongest aspect of the film for me was seeing how Tai has grown and how that affects his relationship with Matt specifically. The challenges of coming to terms with the fact that your friendships will change over time.

So, the best part of this movie is that it reunites the main cast from the original Digimon series. I loved seeing them older and what they were up to. Now this movie is pretty lackluster until the last act. The rest of it plays out like a filler episode that only is there to bridge one plot point to another. I also love that they brought back a lot of the original voices, I just wish they could have got everyone back. It’s hard to remember certain voices and then it not be the same. I’m also not sure if I like the new more “anime” animation style. I miss the old tv show animation.
