i’m poorly today and spent most of my day alone so got bored, so i got on the phone with my best friend today and we talked about music. i’m an old head and i brought up nina simone. 

i mentioned just how much she means to me. her voice used to lull me to sleep when i was a baby, same with johnny cash. my mom used to tell me that when i cried, their music made me stop and go to sleep. and this is still something that applies

she asked me if i’d ever seen this biopic. i never even knew there WAS a nina simone biopic. and so we watched it together. all i will give you the honor of knowing is that i never knew a biopic for her existed, and i wish i never did 🫩🫩

this movie is disgustingly disrespectful with all the charisma of a melted kinder egg. i’m so fucking angry that this is even allowed to exist. how did this happen. why did this happen. can the sun just explode

I love Nina Simone so I was a little hesitant to see Nina Simone played by Zoe Saldana. I do believe Zoe did a great job singing and acting, I just believe she doesn’t resemble Nina. At times in the movie you would see actual pictures and art on the wall of the actual Nina Simone and it looked nothing like the actress. The movie could of delved more deeply into Nina’s childhood and her inner struggles as an adult rather than her just being an manic alcoholic.

I want to know what everyone making this movie was thinking when they thought Saldana was a good choice to play the legendary Nina Simone. Personally, my first pick would have been Viola Davis. Zoe Saldana playing Nina Simone didn't even feel like I was watching her play Nina Simone. Just, I can't. I'm done. Ugh.
