Why does the creature design go so hard in these little kid Mothra movies? It’s still at the worst time for these movies to be made, when the CGI looks like a Pokémon commercial from the 90’s, but the practical monster effects are genuinely great.
I don’t know if this one is actually better than the first one, or if I was just better prepared for it, but I found it to be at least watchable. The kid stuff feels less terrible, the tiny evil witch is... less present. These Heisei Mothra movies clearly aren’t for me, but if I watched Latitude Zero because it almost has a connection to the Godzilla franchise, then you bet I’m going to finish what I started.
Final thought: Mothra turns into a giant fish moth at one point and it’s actually pretty cool. Mothra is cool. Sure wish these movies were.
