A Christmas time heist thriller?!?! Uhhhh… YES PLEASE! This is a very under-seen film that I enjoyed much more than I expected. Definitely one I’d recommend to check out.

Just marvel: Cushing looking straight down the lens with more malice than most villains, delivering that line like his life depends on it. I can think of no better way to spend 60 minutes.

A great stage-to-screen adaptation, Cash On Demand’s thrills heat up ever so gradually in exciting ways. Peter Cushing kills it as Harry Fordyce, a cold and stern man who cares little for others. When the only thing he cares about - his wife and child - are threatened, he plays along with an impostor who has arrived to rob the bank to ensure their safety. It’s so simple and effective and might be one of my favorite Christmas movies now.

A solid exercise in tension carried by its two leads delivering wonderful performances. Peter Cushing’s miserly bank owner bears a familiar resemblance to Ebenezer Scrooge if Scrooge was taken hostage and forced to give his money to the Ghost of Christmas Present. There’s a natural charm to André Morell to the point that you’d often forget you’re supposed to be rooting against him. Much of the drama of the film comes from how contained the whole thing feels both spatially and the fact that it largely takes place in real time over the course of 80 minutes. It’s not the thrilling bank heists of Dog Day Afternoon or Rififi but it’s full of drama and suspense and even makes for an oddball Christmas movie choice.
