25. ELECTRIC SLIP’n’SLIDE: Wriggle your way through a sloppy/goopy good time flick. “Street Trash (2024)”
I guess the old theory of horror movies reflecting the insecurities of society at the time are true, with this remake/sequel of the 1987 movie of the same name this time showing eerie parallels of a basically fascist police state (subtle nod to comparing them to ICE agents at the beginning) rounding up the unhoused (which in this case is made up of a lot of immigrants also) and exterminating them with an aerosolized spray that causes people to blow up, melt, explode, and fall apart after exposure. A ragtag group of these guys have to fight a corrupt government official (elected into office for eight years, another subtle nod to our current situation).
It starts off a little slow with all this exposition, but if it’s blood and multicolored guts you’re looking for, it has plenty of that in the second half where everything goes off the rails for an anything goes splatterfest.
