A lot of these Brakhage films remind me of when I used to use watercolours as a kid. I'd draw really thick with the pencils, then drown the paper until it ripped when I picked it up. As you could imagine, the image would be completely obscured and what was left was a grey-tinted plethora of floral colours all intertwining with one another.
