“After 7:45, you can have the bathroom all day if you'd like.”
this movie is such a breezy, and underrated delight! like one of those old-school rom-coms that feels charming from start to the end
set during the
1964 Tokyo Olympics, it follows British businessman Sir William Rutland (played by
Cary Grant) who arrives in the city only to find that every hotel is completely booked. with nowhere to sleep, he impulsively answers a roommate ad posted by Christine Easton (played by
Samantha Eggar), a very rule-abiding young woman.
Christine reluctantly lets him stay, even tho she clearly prefers peace, silence, and zero chaos. but Rutland has other plans, once he meets Steve Davis (played by Jim Hutton), a tall and friendly American athlete also stranded without lodging, he sneakily squeezes him into the already cramped apartment as well
with three wildly different personalities now sharing the same small living space, the apartment becomes a hub of comedic tension, romantic sparks, and charming mischief. love the part when Christine’s fiancé suddenly involved between the three of em too HAHA 😹
i love when this movie brings the Tokyo setting, the
Olympic chaos, and the clashing personalities create this warm, playful atmosphere that makes the whole movie feel like a cozy little time capsule. for me, it’s kinda old rom-com i need to rewatch again later 🫶🏻
