Just like how the previous film was a retelling of the first arc, this one is doing the same for the beginning of the training arc, along with some other content.
I can see where websites are coming from when they say to watch this way later while watching the actual series, as moments are reminiscent of when Goku goes back to looking for the Dragon Balls again (even down to Bulma’s hairstyle).
I kinda like how this film tries to build up Goku and Krillin’s friendship, as opposed to the anime where Krillin goes from cheating against him during competitions to just getting used to him. Krillin not only states that he wouldn’t save Goku in the beginning, but even attempts to kill him on the bridge - fair play on the Nimbus for not letting him hitch on for a ride.
I would’ve liked to have seen more of Lucifer, especially with what’s currently happening in Daima - it would make some great use of comparing how Toriyama handles the demon characters to Toei.
In terms of the Funimation remastering, yeah this is actually bad. They somehow set the film to 12fps, and it’s really obvious in the beginning - so many moments looked like it had that 2000s Newgrounds animation transitions. Can someone please get Toei/Crunchroll to fix their shows.
