For the last installment of Shigehiro Ozawa's The Street Fighter trilogy, it's evident they couldn't keep leeching off the first movie's reputation for violence and brutal fighting sequences so they finally embraced its own inherent ridiculousness and went straight for the improbable physics and exaggerated tone characteristic of low-budget exploitation flicks.
Sonny Chiba's martial arts skills are undeniable but they're nowhere near as good as other of his contemporaries. I'm down for anything else he's in but I never felt compelled or particularly excited for any of the situations his character Takuma Tsurigi was caught in. I enjoyed it more when he was getting his ass beaten up by his enemies because he's an asshole and deserved every single punch he got. Also, I practiced karate for a couple of years so it never struck me as something distinctly dangerous or menacing.
Thankfully I can now move on to the Sister Street Fighter series. Can't speak about its quality but at least it features a female lead and it promises badass action by Etsuko Shihomi.
