“Get away from this place, girl. Go now before the harm’s done.”this movie delivers a different flavor of Agatha Christie with less cozy whodunit, more eerie psychological spiral. and this movie leans into mood over mechanics, slowly building an atmosphere that feels romantic at first but turns increasingly uneasy, almost dreamlike (no wonder why she said this is her own favorite book ever) 🫶🏻
Michael Rogers (played by
Hywel Bennett), a charming young man from a modest background, dreams of escaping his ordinary life. when he meets Ellie Thomsen (played by
Hayley Mills), an extremely wealthy heiress
(6th richiest girl in the world) who longs to break free, they quickly fall in love.
despite the objections of Ellie’s family and the suspicious intrusions of others around them, the couple buys land on
Gipsy’s Acre, a place Mike always fantasized about and begins building their ideal modern home together. but whispers of a curse tied to the land and mysterious warnings from a local woman makes them curious but they didn’t care about it
as their marriage settles in, unsettling tensions grow. Ellie’s companion Greta (played by
Britt Ekland) appears and seems to hold an uncomfortable influence over Ellie, while Mike’s insecurities and ambitions deepen. then, some strange accidents and psychological pressure begin to fracture the couple’s life. and the tragedy strikes as Ellie dies in what seems like a terrible accident yet the truth behind her death is far darker.
in the end, we would see
HOW CRAZY THE TWIST IS ☠️i would say, this movie leaves us with that quiet, sinking feeling that everything was doomed from the moment it began
