An intimate but refreshing take on colonialism that Western audiences probably need to see. An interesting coincidence I just watched Touki Bouki where a motorbike was no small ingredient to the film, both of which feature characters striving to escape. After watching, it's no surprise to learn Apichatpong Weerasethakul was consulted in some way; I got strong vibes of his when they shot in the countryside. One of my favourite moments in the film occurs on the Mekong River (if I remember correctly). My absolute favourite moment though is the weed-smoking scene. Wow did that look fun!
Amazing soundtrack! I need to find out these songs.
Easily earns its three-hour run time. Would not cut a thing.
Looking back at the decade, I am blown away by the immense supply of wonderful films from 2016.
