Basically, the movie has two plotlines – a horror one (about the ghost of one girl wronged by a bully (whose actor was the reason I ever found out about that film, lol, love you Mitsuyoshi Shinoda) who gets her revenge on him and his minions) and a sad one, about a guy kidnapping a child and then suddenly realising she has a weird resemblance with his long dead sister. And although the first plotline isn't really scary and satisfying, meaning Purei fails as a horror movie, its tragic part is really good-written (the final revelation reminds me of Omori), so the ending had me weeping a lot, which was a nice surprise since I didn't expect to get emotional over an old low-budget J-horror. All in all, the quality isn't quite high, but I think this movie still can pass as a fine watch for a movie night.
