Dude, I tried. I know a lot of Hungarian people recommend this one, but I couldn’t get into it. The animation is flat, the jokes are corny and don’t land, and the pacing is horrific. Really nice to see a positive representation of Romani Hungarian people though. I think this is the only Hungarian film I’ve seen (so far) that paints Roma as humans with depth. I’m sure the book is pretty cool, but I’m not rocking with this adaptation. It also doesn’t help that I’ve been watching this movie in small bits over the past month. Who knows. Will probably never revisit this.
