A lot of people are missing the point of this movie it show how when you grow up in a western country and you start to lose yourself you try and look at religion as a way to try and find who you are and this can very easily turn in to something dangerous because religion is not meant for that and that is what this movie shows that by being angry radicalised and thinking you are doing the right thing how u can bury yourself in a much deeper whole just because ur trying to find your way. It’s not meant to show u that Islam is bad or whatever (it’s not ) it shows u what anger and the feeling of not belonging somewhere can do to you ( u can compare this to social media in 2020 ifykyk).

I still can't tell if I like this film or not.

The pacing is real weird and I don't ever find myself feeling anything for Layla at any point in time. I get what De Jong is trying to do, but a lot of it just feels so out of place. Layla being both extremely feminist and then being extremely willing to run off with her husband is an interesting duality, but I just don't buy it.

The scenes at the motel are still real good though... I wish this movie was more of that.
