Above average Benny Chan action film where his broad, simplistic worldview actually benefits the film, which tells one of those "High Noon"-esque stories where it really helps to know who to root for and who to boo at. It just so happens then that Chan is really good at directing actors in broad strokes so that we know who to like or dislike immediately. Lau Ching-wan's character is a Hero with a capital H and Louis Koo is a Villain with a capital V. Benny Chan, armed with a good script this time around, gets to showcase how good he can be at directing action and making us root for the hero. Benny Chan can honestly be hit or miss for me, but here he shows that with the right kind of material he really can be great at making blockbusters that actually entertain.
