“to die among friends. can a man ask more? can a world offer less? who wants to live 'til the last bottle is empty. it's all for one, d'artagnan – and one for all!"
i'm so picky with adaptations of the three musketeers, because i just adore the book so incredibly much. and while i didn't like some choices, this may be my favourite iteration yet.
so pretty, with some great casting and even better costuming. loved the characterisations too. i was on the fence about gene kelly as d'artagnan at first, but after about 10 minutes i fell in love with him. lana turner as milady was perfect. AND we got the wine cellar scene!! wine cellar scene my beloved!!
only thing i wish people would remember when adapting t3m is how young and closer in age d'artagnan, the musketeers, and milady are. d'artagnan is 19 at the start of the book and the others are all in their mid- to late-twenties. i feel like it's often overlooked, but them all being closer in age adds so much more to the story in my opinion.
