“i didn’t have the perfect family either.”
honestly this one kind of crushes you. media that tackles the daunting problem of generational trauma and broken families always affects me very deeply, and i think a lot of it isn’t always handled the best way, but this movie is an unflinching look at the cycles we are born into and have to break. it’s such a fucking difficult thing to look at, especially watching this young child who has the capacity to understand the sadness of her situation but has no agency to change her own surroundings. it also tackles the very difficult ideas of knowing who your parents are and trying to understand why they became who they became. it’s something i constantly have to work on in regards to my own parents. it’s just so painful and hard to watch something like this in comparison to my own life knowing all the issues i’m going to eventually have to address with my parents, and hopefully avoid with my own kids one day. quietly haunting documentary.
