What a showcase of acting talent this movie provides for our four main players in this film (Marsha Mason, Kristy McNichol, James Coco, and Joan Hackett).
The first hour started fine but lacking in drama with hour characters but the second half completely changes that and ramps it up and does it very well, every other scene eliciting emotion out of me, and what else should I expect from Neil Simon hasn't missed with me so far.
What a run Marsha Mason was on at this time. This performance was her fourth lead actress nomination. It is a shame that her career went downhill after this point. She should still be in movies now, heck, even leading some.
Kristy McNichol shows up and does exactly what she does best—and kills it. She should have also received an Oscar nomination for her performance along with the rest of the cast.
James Coco and Joan Hackett are now people I would definitely look for more things to watch them in.
What an underrated film.
