❝Open up your mouth, and let it all out; you've got to get it all out, just get it off your fucking chest. The shit that you've been through is the reason you're you, and I bet someone is listening with a similar history. Once the words are spoken and they're all out in the open, it will help other people feel a lot less broken.❞

Torrey Pines is a well-crafted queer coming-of-age film that had both ups and downs. I love stop-motion, and I thought the animation on the whole was done really well; it was very fitting with the themes and plot of the film. There's very little dialogue, so it forces you to pay attention to the small details, and the animation did a great job of telling the viewer what was happening sans words. I have to admit, there were certain points in the story towards the end where I wasn't completely sure what was going on, but I didn't mind too much. I do think the film is too short, though; there wasn't nearly enough time spent focusing on the protagonist's understanding of sexuality and gender identity, as well as an underdeveloped look at the relationship with their mum, so as a result, the ending felt very rushed. With that being said, this is based on a true story, so I don't want to criticise the film too much. All in all, I think it's very worth giving Torrey Pines a watch, especially if you love stop-motion.
