Wholesome/saccharin as hell, to the point of manipulation.  For all the cuteness and sweetness of the movie, I was frustrated by the fatal choice to send him away. Like just because his arranged marriage was a good match does NOT justify his parents for sending away as an actual little kid nor absolve them from removing the only frown the little Charlie Chaplin had. 

Incredibly won over by the child performances. They were charming as hell.

first time i ever saw this movie i was somewhere between 9 and 12. it was playing on HBO or showtime or one of those premium cable channels and i just so happened to catch it as it began. i was captivated. i have no idea what drew to this film so much but i loved it. i’d never seen anything like it. it’s been a number of years since i first saw this film and i have never had the opportunity to rewatch it until now. it’s not technically impressive in any way, but it’s very personal to me. 

simple and fun with some elements of absurd humor.

the Ganesh halloween costume will always be iconic.
