Honestly, this short just didn’t do much for me. It’s framed like a mockumentary where the side characters from “Finding Dory” — Hank, Destiny, Bailey, Fluke, Rudder, etc. — sit in tanks or around the Marine Life Institute giving these quick little interviews about Dory. The only thing I somewhat appreciated was hearing some of the voice cast back. There are a couple of mildly amusing moments, but nothing that made me laugh out loud. It’s shot like one of those behind-the-scenes extras you’d expect buried on a Blu-ray menu, and that’s exactly how it feels: a throwaway bonus.
Where it really lost me was the “story,” if you can even call it that. It’s basically just a bunch of characters talking about Dory, then Dory pops in and doesn’t remember them. That’s the whole punchline, and it’s over before it even starts. Continuity-wise it’s a mess too — half these characters shouldn’t even be back at the Institute after how the main film ended, and that bugged me more than it should for something this short. It felt very lazy, like Pixar just grabbed whatever assets they had lying around to pad out a release. For me, it’s forgettable with no real purpose, and for Pixar standards, it’s a bottom tier animated short.
