Hunting Emma or in my home language Jagveld isn't a Christmas movie at all. So why did I decide to watch it instead of my normal hits. Well I'm working abroad and I miss my family and this movie happens to be completely in my home language and it's one I remember always liking. There aren't many movies in Afrikaans I like.
Hunting emma follows a kindergarten teacher traveling home when she sees a group of criminals commit a murder and then they see her and start to hunt her but they underestimate the fight in her.
The story is honestly more of the same than any other in this genre. That being said it plays on the tropes and cliches well. The action looks cool. The characters from Emma to all the criminals are likeable or hateable.
The characters here again are more of the same. Emma is still a good character and seeing her internal fight as she fights back against these terrible men is fun snd engaging. Her kills are pretty great too and shes badass. The criminals are all people you want to see die in terrible ways and you mostly do. The leader is also pretty entertaining.
The movie I will say steals alot from American movies like some Tarantino esqe shots, a spaghetti western style duel and more. It doesn't make the movie original but hey its done in a cool way and that enough for me here.
The action and kills are nice too. I like how she takes them down. It's shot well and her backstory makes it more interesting. I will say I would have like a longer final takedown in the climax but it still looked cool.
So in the Hunting Emma was a nice reminder and a cool movie at the same time. I still have alot of fun with this movie and wish there was more south african movies like it.
