For many years I was convinced that aside from the people who made it and a few critics, I was the only person who has ever seen this movie, and that’s not far off. At the time of this review this 15 year old movie has 354 reviews. Without a doubt the most obscure movie I know of that I’ve seen. I find it utterly baffling because it’s a modern masterpiece of genre filmmaking. A textbook example of how to set a premise, build tension, and pay it off. A true hidden gem.

I do not believe in gate keeping. I want everyone to love the things I love and I fucking love this movie. If I ever had a talk show I would book Ryan Kwanten just to talk to him about Red Hill. This is the movie I recommend to people more than any other and it has a 100% success rate. I have introduced dozens of people to Red Hill over the last 15 years and every single one of them has been blown away. Love a showpiece from a director that launches them into Hollywood and this is a great example of that. Economical but still really well made. If you're hankering for a lean thriller with Western and Noir vibes and exactly one ridiculous element, check it out.
