Decided to rewatch the remake of 1980’s “Gloria” with Sharon Stone playing the lead role once owned by the legendary Gena Rowlands. The original is one of my all-time favorites, but I wanted to revisit this 1999 version. Stone brings her own grit and sass to the role, but the film lacks the raw magic and heart of Cassavetes’ classic. It feels glossier, faster, and more action-driven, losing some of the intimate tension that made the original so unforgettable. Still, as a late 90s crime drama, it has its charms, but it’ll never dethrone the queen.
RIP George C. Scott
