Haven’t seen the show, but decided to watch this bc it’s from the studio behind Violet Evergarden and all the great Naoko Yamada stuff. I really enjoyed the hell out of this one when I was able to meet it at its level (which to me read like an absurdist comedy). Didn’t buy the melodrama nearly as much, but Tatsuya Ishihara clearly knows how to pull all the situational comedy out of a scene and it’s amazing when he’s at his best. The lightning fast pace and road trip conceit helped give the film momentum that made it seem about 5 minutes long. Perfect light mid-exam week watch.
