Not feeling as critical as when I first watched this but I still have a lot of the same sentiments 🤣🤣 Animal abuse, ear grating soundtrack at points, fight choreography that left a bit to be desired (apart from the final fight, that was pretty entertaining 😄), an odd starting plot of “if you’re a cocky drunk you deserve to be framed for rape and have your hands turned to pulp” 🤨😆 and most glaring of all a main character who is annoying af and even inadvertently mocks the death of Master Chen’s monkey by acting like he’s a better replacement 😭😂 Despite other user’s ratings I just feel this is one of the weaker Shawscope films Ive seen, it could be just a difference if preference but idk Im struggling to warm up to it 😅

When this movie is firing on all cylinders it is truly something special. However, the one thing keeping it from greatness is that it is a bit too long. The second training sequence feels incredibly redundant , and it also does not really demonstrate in any way why monkey becomes more powerful. It’s just some more basic training. He doesn’t learn any sort of secret, or grow in any way, and he actually does way less training than in the first section. Could have cut it out entirely and the movie would be better paced for it.

And yet, wow the action in this is so fun, so exciting, so good. And the plot is actually fairly compelling as far as these things go. Definitely a gem still.

Not crazy about this one, the fights weren’t full of the stiff painful looking strikes id expect from a kung fu film but instead were full of silly slaps and people falling into each other. Would maybe make sense if it was for kids or was a full on comedy but they smash a monkey into red paste and break a man’s hands within the first hour 😆😆
Some of the music too was a bit nauseating with its long ringing noises 
I appreciate the attempt at a more slapstick kung fu film with less brutal violence but tonally it doesn’t match. The protagonist’s weren’t too interesting, the villains were genuine morons and even the goons and fodder fighters had no crazy moments.
