On one hand a rather straightforward WWII era anti-Nazi propaganda film, which honestly we could all do for some right now, but on the other hand it stars Conrad Veidt literally acting opposite himself as a man and his Nazi twin brother. How could I just not love that conceit? I'm just really surprised that a propaganda film made this early in America's involvement in WWII has such a sympathetic portrayal of a German who wants nothing to do with the path his homeland has gone, though that was probably purposeful as a way to affirm German-American audiences to our side.
