Under the tree is a mix between a dark comedy and a heavy family drama. And a good one at that.
The loss of a loved one starts to spinn a family of 3 in circles with unforseen consequenses.
Actingwise this film surprised me. The lead actor is best known for scetch comedy and doesnt often show hiss ability for drama. He shows that as an actor he can be even better in the drama genra than in comedy.
An older woman suffering from the loss of her son is played by Edda Björgvins, one of Iceland's most beloved actresses, and she is brilliant. She is mentaly destrought and broken and plays her part amazingly.
If I had to pick at something it would be the camerawork. Some scenes are poorly lit and strangly framed. In one or to shots you get an extreme cloe up wich is not needed.
All in all, a fantastic piece of Icelandic cinema.
