I swear if I ever catch any of you people saying this is the best Moroccan film, it’s nowhere near good. The only exception is Anas El Baz’s performance.
And don’t get me wrong, I get the thematic weight of it, and yeah, for its time, having something like Casanegra was kind of revolutionary. But that doesn’t magically make it a good film.
The rest of the cast is doing way too much, like seriously, calm down. It feels forced, not natural at all. Also the soundtrack choices are just random and completely out of place almost all of the time.
Another problem was the "profanity". I don’t personally have a problem with cursing at all, but the way it’s used here is just so random, it's like they're trying to tell us “hey look, it’s a grounded film, we’re cursing every 2 seconds.” That’s just not how it works.
Anyway, that’s my personal take. Maybe I’m wrong, but honestly, I don’t see what everyone else is seeing.
