The action in this is a big step up from the original, but everything else is somewhat a step down. The problem is that there are all these side characters that basically just exist to get cut down. When the villains are not using their exciting gimmicks to kill them, these side characters are boring . Worse, the thousand blade queen kind of draws the movie to a halt, as she uses only trickery and deception on these characters we do not care about, and the only guy we do care about (Fang) never was falling for her tricks, so she kind of is just dead air . That being said , the eight kings having special gimmicks is great, and there is a lot of action. Just feels like it could have been tightened up to a cool 90 mins.
