Some good atmosphere and charm is wasted when things devolve into "people running in backlit woods and then dying offscreen." The confederate ghosts are justified in their haunting and set up as sympathetic in a way I think we'll want to change in the remake.
The tunnel scenes reminded me of the episode of Monsters called "The Hole" which is a shorter, more entertaining watch.
