“this place, this country… it’s changing. and it ain’t for the best.”
fuck me if i didn’t get baited into watching this you did me dirty naomi watts
she’s basically the only reason i would tell you to even consider watching this. she’s really gripping as june leigh, a struggling writer now dealing with agoraphobia and anxiety, shut up inside of her own world during the summer of sam. on top of that, she’s dealing with a persistent, invisible entity that seems hell bent in harassing her out of her apartment.
the bad news? there’s no FUCKING payoff for anything in this movie.
we never find out who’s ringing her doorbell. we never see the son of sam. freddie’s ominous line about people “pushing in” on june never happens. it’s just so damn boring watching june be trapped in her apartment. nothing happens. it’s just tension that slowly builds up only to sputter out and dissipate into the wind.
we also have no clue who june is. we get TWO hints at her story and they don’t give us anything. it’s just such piss poor writing to do that. if you’re going to keep us locked in with june, then let us be fully locked in. let us see what led her to this place. be brave, take a risk.
the film has several easy layups that just never hit the mark and it makes for an incredibly frustrating watch. not to mention that this is mislabeled on amazon prime. horror this is not.
please skip this, do not do what i did.
