You have no idea how lucky you are to be French.
This is a tough movie to review. I felt like it gave voice to a lot of my very specific personal feelings which I appreciated, and it ultimately showed the futility of running away and trying to completely erase one’s roots, which I appreciated more. The thing about this movie that makes it hard for me to recommend is how self-consciously “art house” it is. It feels like a movie that was crafted for film festivals and for professional critics to contemplate and discuss at cafés over cappuccino and croissants. I think it’s a shame that this movie seems so intent on being so specific and so niche, because it definitely has important things to say.

I don’t know why almost every scene was sustained on pure sexual tension, but I also don’t care? It’s the most oddly sexy movie I’ve seen.
