First thought I had after watching this was : Why can't the current Pakistani film industry produce something like this, something to just rival this?
I'm not even sure how to describe how I felt while watching this. The acting, music, cinematography and pacing everything was all just so good and it being realistic evoked a certain feeling of melancholy. The climax scene of the film is a continuous 10 minute, one-take shot with no edits, spanning multiple rooms and multiple characters, this is rarely done internationally and that really tells a lot of things. The music was soothing overall but the final scene with the rain, that was beautiful.
Being a resident of Karachi myself, seeing all those familiar locations on the screen was just..wow.
A cake has layers and so did the characters, no one was good or bad but they were all black and white, everyone with different dreams, each yearning for something. Dealing with themes like love and death, Asim Abbasi handled it maturey on his debut. Not sure why he hasn't come up with another project in those five years.
