Honestly had no clue this was a sequel to Tales from the Crypt, which I have shamefully never seen, I just saw this on Shudder and gave it a watch because the concept seemed interesting. Incidentally the concept is just about the only thing keeping it afloat.
It's absolutely fine. Stories that play out much better on paper than on film strung together in a way that's half-interesting and half-lazy. These are all kind of like shorter mid-low tier Twilight Zone episodes, although some of them play with a more comedic tone, which I really appreciate. Last one is probably the best.
It's weird because the film never really decides whether they want to play out like dreams or like stories. Of course the ending specifies which one all of the segments actually were, but some of them play out much more like a disjointed dream while others play out like horror shorts. I enjoyed when they leaned into the dreamlike qualities and kind of wish they did that more; feel it could've helped the film stand out.
Will have to get around to watching the first film as I hear it's better. This wasn't bad at all, though, honestly, just a bit uninspired.
