1. moonlight sonata is my favorite piece so i enjoyed how it was used
2. i have reservations about parents choosing the cochlear implant for their child, so that bothered me the whole documentary. you’re automatically placing them in between two cultures, which is a hard place to be. the grandpa told him “you’re not deaf like i was deaf” which can be an isolating statement. grandpa also told him that he had to explain to hearing people that he couldn’t hear exactly like they can, which also isolates. the deaf person should ultimately be the one to decide.
3. the struggle the grandpa had to go through simply because he was deaf and the hearing world did not attempt to learn or understand added an extra layer to this documentary that was extremely impactful. it allowed for an interesting exploration of the two experiences.
