There was a tv show a while back called the outpost from cw. It was a low budget fantasy cw show with big ideas but not the budget to make it look pretty. I liked that show quite a bit. The hexer reminds me of the outpost in many ways. The only difference is its based on a book series I love and well simply my thoughts are the hexer is better than expected but has its flaws.
The biggest problem with the hexer are 2 things. The budget and the adaptation of some stories. Simply put the budget isn't great and I'm glad they didn't show more monster fights because yeah thr ones they show did not age well. Adaptation wise I didn't mind much but it's when they choose to adapt the story with Renfri (the name escapes me now) in the novel its one of the first stories and we see geralt make difficult choices. Here they do it after Renfri does something terrible and we agree that she should die. It just takes away the meaning for me. Also there isn't enough yennifer.
Now for what I liked. Although the acting isn't the best I do Like Geralt, Yennifer, Ciri and jaskier here. They are adapted well enough and they look the part even if the budget shows itself. Geralt and Yennifer were portrayed well and I think their relationship is put well to screen. Ciri isn't bad either and the ending sweet where Geralt finds her.
Story wise there are 2 sides. On the one side you can see it was a tv show cut into a movie. On the positive note I do like how it's adapted especially how the story connects the short stories to each other. Except for the part with Renfri i really didn't like that part.
I did watch the Netflix show too and played witcher 3. My thoughts on the Netflix show are season 1 is great, 2 is decent, 3 not so good and I didn't watch 4. Compared to the series I like the movie more than season 2 and 3.
In the end I do think dispite the flaws I do like it. I had a good time with it. I wish I could get my dream witcher series with Eva green etc. That being said the hexer is a decent movie.
