It truly breaks my heart that I now need to say goodbye to the joyous ride called the Robert Cinematic Universe. Thank you Andrew Jones for bringing this truly astonishing franchise to life. These movies did not only have a huge impact on its audiences hearts and souls, but also the whole film industry. I am just waiting for this franchise to get that status of cult classic. It’s clearly only lacking time, not greatness to achieve that.
The Robert movies (2015-2019) introduced us to the most iconic, scary and cunty horror movie deity/villain cinema has ever experienced. I am not sure anything will ever compare to it. The way the universe of the RCU expands after the second installment is more prove of the franchise’s willingness to go the distance and not hold back even though it could pose risks. Robert having such huge impacts on world war two and the cold war is something no one in the audience saw coming. But it works greatly. Sometimes movies just gotta take leaps of faith to truly set a statement and make themselves stand out in comparison to the already overfilled horror film industry.
But these movies do not only stand out in comparison to other horror movies. They stand out from the whole film industry due to the depths the lore explores through every installment. The acting is groundbreaking. I just have never seen actors make brilliant choices such as not showing any emotion or delivering their lines in a very forced way. It makes you so immersed in the story. What also works so well is Roberts redemption arc. We are introduced to him as a bad bitch killer in the first installment but over the later films we learn that underneath all the glitz and glamour lies a very disturbed and hurt individual. You just cannot stop yourself from rooting for him despite all his wrongs which just proves how strong the narrative of the RCU works. Robert finding his family in the toymaker, miss cyclops and kalashnikov is so heart warming and really the ending we all wanted for him.
In retrospect: Robert (2015-2019) revolutionized the whole movie industry and showed what cinema can achieve if put in the right hands.
