there are very clear parallels to candyman and clear nods to the generic “demon summoning” trope in america horror films, but kandisha feels exciting because of its setup (france) and unique choice of folklore to adapt from (morrocan). the practical effects were fantastic but i can’t help but wonder if this could have pushed further. personally, i found kandisha to be an enjoyable watch.
