It's been a while since I've watched a movie, so I thought of rewatching this flawed masterpiece (I've been meaning to, ha ha), since it was 33 years of my GOAT. Everything about Master makes me want to celebrate. I'll be honest, this is the movie that made me love this side of Thalapathy Vijay. So flawed, yet raw. Its rewatch value still holds up. The arcs, the specific side characters, the exploration of drugs, JD's alcoholism, and the exploration of the juvenile facility. And Bahavani's menacing side.
Thalapathy and Makkal Selvan having that equal screen time still holds up. With Anirudh's music, which still holds up, except for the scene where the guy gets hit by the lorry.
The "minor" flaws I had were the predictability of the boy's death and the slightly weak college portion, especially the "election" sequence. And certain scenes from the first half, which had some predictability but had great execution with its fantastic action sequences.
It still has a great rewatch value, end of the day, with excellent side characters. And JD's "cinephile" stories.
I'd still give it, a 4.25/5 (8.5/10)
